Idle Valley Ash Extraction
The Parish Council met with representatives of Hive Energy to hear details of their revised proposals, in particularly the volume of HGVs travelling through Ranskill if the planning application is approved. We attach some further detail and a copy of the presentation.

Traffic is a key concern, so hopefully some of the context provided here was helpful, including that in practice the numbers using the A638 at Ranskill will be significantly lower than the worst-case reported in the transport assessment.
If you do require any further information, including traffic figures, or have specific questions then please do let me know. As I said, we want to continue consulting with the council, some of the community benefit fund could be used for road safety initiatives, and we would like to involve you in preparing our Operational Travel Management Plan (‘OTMP’).
Just as a reminder, the types of measures we’d implement and include in the OTMP include, for example:
- Driver training and stringent contracts for haulage operatives;
- Staggering HGVs to avoid convoys;
- Agreeing and avoiding peak times;
- Defined, legally binding routes to the A1(M):
- travel north using the A638 and then south west along the A614 to the A1(M); or
- travel south using the A638 to the A1(M) at Markham Moor.
- 50% split of vehicles travelling north and south from the site, therefore halving the HGVs travelling through Ranskill on the A638;
- Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (‘FORS’);
- Trackers attached to HGVs so that we can monitor the set routes to the A1 and enforce speed limits; and
- Stop / Start function added to HGVs.
